Synopsis

Along the way, their opposing careers and an ongoing national debate about homosexuality ensures that their love for one another must endure a series of often comical series obstacles revolving around both family and current events.

Review on Amazon

There is nothing like accidentally discovering a film and falling in love with it. "The Trip" is a typical coming of age story of two young men (one gay - one on the edge) that follows their journey over two decades. Starting in the early 1970's, every scene is true to the period and the dialogue is clever and witty without ever being pretentious or contrived. The acting is excellent and the main characters are all likable - even when they screw up. Director Miles Swain keeps the story tight with constant flashes of news clips as footnotes to the development of the two buddies relationship. The latter half in the 1980's is also dead-on in its' portrayal of gay life and we see the two main characters grow with each passing world event. At times hilariously funny and others, painfully heartbreaking, "The Trip" is a true balance of hilarity and tragedy that will move anyone.
