We aim to run a number of weekly social groups that meet in various venues across the county. The purpose of these groups is to offer a safe space for lesbian, gay and bisexual people or those questioning their sexuality to meet other like-minded people in similar situations and to encourage us all to feel more confident about our sexualities. Whether you’re feeling alone and isolated or just want to make new friends and have some fun a social group is a great place to start.

The groups are run by one or two co-ordinators who are sessional staff at NLGBA. These people are given regular training and are there to ensure that the group guidelines are followed and everyone has a good time. What happens at the groups varies across the county and is largely determined by the members themselves. As well as having a cuppa and a chat some groups organise activities or watch videos etc and NLGBA helps organise talks and presentations when requested. A number of the groups often finish the night with a drink at the local pub. Gay press and other information is available.

Social groups are open to all LGB people, men and women though some have ended up with a predominantly male or younger crowd. You may want to check the suitability of a group with us before you go. If you are a woman who prefers a male free zone then check out LesbianLine here.

Newcomers are welcome to just turn up on the night but we generally recommend you let us know or turn up early so you can meet the group co-ordinator who will introduce you to the group and help make you feel at ease. If you are apprehensive about turning up alone why not get in touch and we can arrange for someone to meet you and take you along.

All members and co-ordinators who attend the groups are expected to follow the group guidelines.

The Gay Men's Social telephone service is available every Tuesday night from 7.30– 9.30pm on 01604 635975. An answering machine operates at all other times.
